Sadee's Story
Sadee suffered a serious fracture of her left front leg when she was just a wee little pup. Receiving only minimal treatment, the bones did not heal properly and she was dropped at a shelter. As a result of the injury and inadequate care, Sadee's leg is two and one-half inches shorter than the other. She has dropped her shoulder to compensate, dragging her leg along as she walks. Now at just one year old, her deformed leg must be repaired or removed. Although she is in constant pain, Sadee greets each day with a big Golden smile and a waggly tail. Fortunately her leg can be repaired through corrective surgery. This procedure is expensive and requires intensive follow-up care. Without the surgery she will continue to suffer in pain and will eventually have even more problems. A fundraising campaign is currenty under way to get little Sadee the surgery she needs.
Leg Surgery
To help this young dog enjoy her new world without pain, she will soon be scheduled for surgery. Half of the cost for this expensive procedure will be paid by Zack's Fund. The other half will be raised by volunteers selling See's chocolate bars to friends and co-workers. After a convalescent period, during which she will need careful supervision, Sadee's leg will be strong. She will be pain-free and ready for new adventures.
Surgery Update
Sadee and Dr. SamsThanks to Sadee's generous friends, her surgery has been completed and was very successful. She is pictured here with her surgeon, Dr. Andrew Sams, an orthopaedic specialist from Madera Pet Hospital in Corte Madera. After the surgery, he reported that hers was one of the most difficult surgeries of this type he had ever done. He was very pleased with the outcome, however, and predicts that Sadee will be running and playing shortly.

She has four pins attached to an external fixator holding her bones in place. The fixator and pins will be removed at the end of October and after a few more weeks of strict confinement, Dr. Sams expects her to enjoy a full recovery.

Although Sadee has been confined since the surgery, she has, in typical Golden fashion, risen to the occasion. She is happy, playful and has never complained once. She is simply a joy.

Sadee and the volunteers of Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue would like thank all of her kind and generous friends and Dr. Andrew Sams, Dr. Jerry Reinke and the rest of the staff at Madera Pet Hospital. Without the help from all of you, we would not have been able to get Sadee the help she needed so badly.

Stay tuned, another update will be on its way after her next surgery.
